Social
London, UK (1999)
Using the sidewalls as a source of light it expands the space horizontally, and the cast-concrete furniture give a strong sense of personal location.
The Social is a live music venue and bar on the lower floor of an existing building. A generous entrance leads to an oak-lined cocktail bar at street level and a staircase to the basement, which contains a double-height bar at one end and a small sound stage at the other. Using the sidewalls as a source of light designed with backlit GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) expands the space horizontally while the concrete furniture provides for a strong sense of personal location.
