Project Architect

The successful candidate will share in our devotion for social impact and should have experience managing consultants, contractors, and clients while mentoring a team to complete extremely high-quality work in a self-motivated but collaborative manner.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Execute vision of the firm across all aspects of design / team members.
  • Responsible for the development of comprehensive drawing sets from concept through construction documents compliant with all regulations (building code, ADA, etc.).
  • Develop and oversee the development of the detailed 3D models to develop all aspects throughout the changing design process.
  • Oversee the production of, and where required, produce realistic renderings.
  • Oversee physical models throughout all project phases using a combination of hand and machine.
  • Develop and maintain project administrative documents such as agendas, meeting minutes, and directories including schedule of production and coordination with consultant team.
  • Lead the construction administration phase for a project.
  • Coordinate with visualization department for renderings.
  • Proactive in anticipating and addressing any potential issues.
  • Mentor junior staff and lead project development.

Essential Skills:

  • 6+ years of experience in all phases of the design process: conceptual, detail and design development, construction documents, and construction administration with site supervision. 3+ plus years of this experience should be as a Project Architect
  • Skilled in putting together an extremely well documented and coordinated drawing set
  • Solid understanding of materials, construction techniques, and zoning/building codes
  • Perform frequent quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews of all project content produced to ensure alignment of office QA/QC
  • Fluent in relevant client material production and dialogue
  • Proficiency in REVIT, AutoCAD, and Rhino, with V-Ray, Grasshopper, and 3ds Max a plus
  • Excellent Adobe Suite skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-moving environment
  • Comfortable balancing project schedules, staffing, and budget constraints
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple or fast-paced projects
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (spoken and written)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture
  • Licensed in New York State

Sustainability Lead

Adjaye Associates are seeking a Sustainability Lead to inform, drive and lead our sustainability ambitions and provide leadership to our team of designers across our three global offices in Accra, London and New York. As this is a global position, applications are welcome from those who are local to either our Accra, London or New York office.

The ideal candidate will have a background in sustainability and architecture for an integrated approach to design and research.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and lead our strategic sustainability objectives
  • Advise and guide on how we can operate more sustainably as a practice, and in our firm culture.
  • Develop and implement policies and guidance to support sustainable design
  • Create and maintain sustainability resources for our teams to use
  • Act as a source of knowledge for the studios, providing/sourcing expert advice around sustainability in design
  • Stay up to date with current legislation and actively research changing legislation that impacts sustainable design practices
  • Establish targets, monitor and reduce Adjaye Associates environmental impact
  • Environmental assessments of projects, producing cohesive assessments and reports to share with key stakeholders
  • Develop and implement sustainability tools for our project teams to use.
  • Lead regular project reviews and assessments
  • Support project teams to produce sustainable design strategies and systems
  • Input to PR, marketing and bid activities in regards to sustainability
  • Engage and participate in sustainability focused activities within the wider construction industry
  • Lead the ISO:14001 Sustainability Group, ensuring continued success at certification.

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years working at a senior level in the field of Sustainability and Architecture (or related field)
  • Global understanding of legislation in relation to sustainability and the environment
  • Thorough knowledge of sustainable design strategies including technologies and materials
  • Self-motivated with intellectual curiosity and a passion for design, the environment and sustainable practices.
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects at any given time.
  • Experience with project performance analysis
  • Experience leading/contributing to initiatives such as ISO:14001, BCorp, Net Zero
  • Experience working with Senior Leadership teams to deliver company objectives
  • Ability to lead, train and mentor others successfully
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Sustainability, Architecture or related field
  • Sustainability qualifications such as LEED, BREEAM etc preferred but not essential

Executive Assistant

The ideal candidate will assist with high-level administrative support for the studio’s CEO, specifically scheduling, correspondence, and other administrative duties. This position demands great organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential material with integrity. The Executive Assistant will act as the main contact between the executive, internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Serve as the liaison between the executive, clients, staff, and external partners
  • Write, review, and send accurate communications on behalf of the CEO when required
  • Schedule appointments, update calendars, and provide daily briefings
  • Organize and prepare for meetings, including attending to logistics and documents that will be needed
  • Write and distribute meeting minutes as necessary
  • Coordinate travel arrangements, prepare detailed itineraries, organize, and submit/claim expenses
  • Screen all incoming phone calls, enquiries, visitors, correspondence, and route accordingly
  • Sort, rank, and occasionally reply to emails on the CEO’s behalf if required
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information both internally and externally
  • Manage complex office administrative work requiring the use of independent judgment and initiative
  • Provide support to other administrative team members in the studio when necessary
  • Maintain databases and accurate records of information

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in administration or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience working as an Assistant to a C suite executive or in administrative support functions
  • Experience working at an Architectural firm will be an added advantage
  • Possess high level organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with a strong attention to detail
  • Good time management and flexibility in working hours
  • Proactive with a high sense of responsibility and adaptability to evolving business needs that impacts daily tasks for the executive
  • Ability to interact with people from all levels of the firm and external stakeholders in a polite and professional manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and social media web platforms

Summer Apprentice

The Adjaye Associates New York Summer Apprenticeship aims to foster a holistic work environment that is committed to the ongoing mentorship, education and professional development.

This summer, each apprentice will receive temporary employment status and will be paid hourly at a competitive rate with the expectation of a 40 hour work week. Each apprentice will be paired with a reliable mentor who will help the apprentices acclimate to a professional environment while offering a familiar face to encourage camaraderie. Apprentices are an integral part of our office culture – they will be working with like-minded individuals while being integrated into studio’s everyday community. Some skillsets one can expect to learn range from rendering work, material research, modeling, advocacy, package making, and presenting. We are also looking to learn from the apprentices and what skills and insight they have that can further improve our design process.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project team on preparing presentation drawings
  • Internal professional development presentation (topics to be led by apprentices)
  • Design development through software use / model making / team collaboration /drawing / sketching
  • Post-occupancy evaluations of built Adjaye Associates project(s)
  • Office culture and internal advocacy development

Recruitment Criteria

  • BIPOC university students are encouraged to apply
  • Apprentices to be in architecture-related program
  • Software familiarity is ideal: Rhino, AutoCAD, VRAY, Enscape, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat PRO, etc.)
  •  Physical model-making skills ideal
