Adjaye Associates’ National Museum of African American History and Culture received a prestigious Good Design Award® Gold Winner in the Architectural Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

The Good Design Awards Jury commented - The presence of this public building, within the public realm and public consciousness, is a beautiful strong symbol. An anti-building among its surrounding European cousins, is exactly the kind of presence that African American culture should have in this context - a string, poised, confident and different kind of building - somehow self-assured in its setting despite its difference.

Winners of the 60th Anniversary Good Design Awards will be showcased to the general public during Vivid Sydney, the world's biggest festival of light, music and ideas in Sydney from 25-27 May 2018 at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay.
